Task #4 Social Networks

Disclaimer: I am a horrid facebooker

My view of facebook has evolved over time. At first I could not see the point of it and never cared to join. However when I returned to school after my undergrad and all my classmates were facebooking each other I thought it might be a good idea to join. It was a real blast! Between caring for fluffy pets and filling out friendship quizzes as well as finding tons of old friends, it seemed that I had a very active facebook life.
Upon graduating my interest in facebook began to dwindle (apparently my procrastinating temperament seems to be subdued without the constant flood of due dates nipping at my heels).

Presently I find myself overwhelmed by all the pokes, growing flower requests and continual status updates. I do enjoy connecting with long lost friends and browsing my friends photos to see what they have been up to but I just cannot keep up with all the extra stuff. I will continue to use facebook beyond the Betty Blogger program but I can not see myself becoming a fabulous facebooker anytime soon.

I do have concerns with online bullying, online predators and stalkers, and the misuse of people's personal information but social networking sites are not the cause of these social ills; the social network forum is neither good nor bad it is how its used.

  1. I, too, have found my interest in Facebook dwindling. All things in moderation, I guess. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience, Jamianne.
